Watchers is a science-fiction, horror movie released in 1988. The film is directed by Jon Hess and is based on the novel of the same name by Dean Koontz. It stars Corey Haim, Michael Ironside, and Christopher Cary in the main roles. The plot of the movie revolves around a secret military experiment that goes wrong, resulting in the creation of a genetically engineered dog named Einstein who possesses human-like intelligence, as well as enhanced physical abilities. When Einstein manages to escape from the laboratory, the military sends a team of soldiers led by the ruthless and sadistic Major Manchek (Michael Ironside) to track him down and recover him.

At the same time, Travis Cornell (Corey Haim), a young man grieving over the recent death of his best friend, adopts a golden retriever named Lucky. Unbeknownst to Travis, however, Lucky is being chased by a vicious creature that is determined to kill him. When Travis eventually learns about the danger Lucky is in, he finds himself in the middle of a deadly game of cat and mouse with the creature and the military, who are both after the dog for their own purposes.

The heart of the story is the relationship between Travis, Lucky, and Einstein, who eventually join forces to outrun and outwit their enemies. Along the way, they form an unlikely bond that transcends their differences and leads them to discover the true meaning of friendship and loyalty.

The performances in Watchers are solid, with Corey Haim delivering a convincing portrayal of a troubled young man who finds purpose in his quest to protect Lucky. Michael Ironside is excellent as the villainous Major Manchek, who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Christopher Cary also stands out as the scientist who created Einstein and must face the consequences of his actions.

The special effects in Watchers are a mix of practical effects and puppetry, with the creature hunting Lucky being particularly well-done. The film also features a memorable score by Maurice Jarre, who is best known for his work on Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago.

Overall, Watchers is an entertaining and engaging sci-fi horror movie that fans of the genre will appreciate. While the plot may be somewhat predictable, the strong performances, likable characters, and effective special effects make it a satisfying viewing experience.
