Disney Announces Four More 3D Re-Releases Including 'Finding Nemo'

It was only a matter of time: Disney has announced that it will be converting four more of its movies into 3D and giving them theatrical re-releases.

This announcement comes on the heels of a few huge weekends at the box office for "The Lion King 3D," which earned nearly $30 million in its first weekend and has added nearly another $100M to its domestic total, putting the movie among the top domestic earners of all time.

Given that success (and the premium ticket prices), it makes perfect sense for Disney to pursue other re-releases with 3D upconversion. Today, Disney announced that "Beauty and the Beast," "Monsters Inc.," "The Little Mermaid" and "Finding Nemo" will all be converted to 3D and re-released in theaters.

The releases will start in January of 2012 and continue into 2013. Here's the full schedule:

"Beauty and the Beast 3D" - January 13, 2012

"Finding Nemo 3D" - September 14, 2012

"Monsters Inc. 3D" - Januray 18, 2013

"The Little Mermaid 3D" - September 13, 2013

Not sure how "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" will work out, but I'll bet good money that "Finding Nemo" is going to look great in 3D, and the door sequence in "Monsters Inc." should be a lot of fun as well.
