Watch Detroit Lions

Founded:Established 1930
Stadium Name:Ford Field

The Detroit Lions is one of the oldest NFL teams currently in existence. Like most teams, it came from another city early on after the inception of professional football. The team was known as the "Portsmouth Spartans" as it came from Portsmouth, Ohio, but then became part of the National Football League in 1930. Due to the small size of the city, it moved to Detroit in 1934 and became known as the Detroit Lions then.

Despite being one of the original members of the NFL and having won four NFL championships, the team is one of four teams to have never played in the Super Bowl. The team is looking to change this, especially in recent years, as it has continually added to its talent and now is one of the most talented teams in the NFC North. The main issue facing the Detroit Lions, especially the last couple years, has been being in the same division as the Green Bay Packers, which has overly dominated the division.

The NFC North should prove to be a rather interesting division this year. While the Packers will most likely continue to dominate the league, the Lions should be right up there. The Vikings should also make drastic moves and improvements over the past several years.

The Detroit Lions have arguably one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game in Calvin Johnson. Now, he could be again arguably the best receiver in the NFL today, if he stays healthy. He has battled injuries in the last several years so his numbers are not as good as they could be. It also depends on how Matthew Stafford fairs, and the addition of Ameer Abdullah, the RB out of Nebraska.

The Lions are still going to have the annual Thanksgiving day game against the Eagles, and outside of the NFC North, the team has games against the Seahawks, Chargers and Raiders, to name a few.
