A Touch of Cloth is a British comedy series that parodies the police procedural genre. This show is largely inspired by the likes of A Touch of Frost and Ashes to Ashes. Season 1 episode 1 of A Touch of Cloth is named The First Case, and it introduces the main character of the show, Detective Jack Cloth.

The episode starts with an introduction to Detective Cloth, who is not your typical detective. He is a hard-drinking, womanizing, and maverick cop who is not well-liked by his colleagues. He is asked to investigate a suspicious death, and as he arrives on the crime scene, it's clear that he is out of his depth. The death looks like an accident, but as Cloth begins his investigation, he quickly discovers that there is a lot more to the case than meets the eye.

As Cloth navigates his way through the investigation, he teams up with his colleague DC Anne Oldman. Oldman is the straight-laced and intelligent counterpart to Cloth's maverick detective. She is shocked by Cloth's methods but quickly learns how to work with him. The duo is tasked with unravelling the mystery behind the suspicious death, and as they dig deeper, they uncover a web of corruption and deceit.

As the episode progresses, the investigation takes a bizarre turn, and the detectives find themselves in increasingly perilous situations. There are plenty of plot twists and turns throughout the episode, and the writers manage to keep the audience guessing until the very end.

One of the standout elements of the show is the way it parodies the police procedural genre. The series is not afraid to take a swipe at many of the genre's most common tropes, from the hard-drinking detective to the overly complicated case. The writing is sharp, and there are plenty of laughs to be had throughout the episode.

The performances from the cast are also top-notch. John Hannah gives a great performance as the hard-drinking detective, and there is a real chemistry between him and Suranne Jones, who plays DC Anne Oldman. While their characters are very different, they manage to work well together, and their interactions are some of the funniest moments in the episode.

Overall, season 1 episode 1 of A Touch of Cloth is a strong start to the series. The episode is well-written, funny, and packed full of interesting characters. The show is a perfect parody of the police procedural genre, and it's easy to see why it has become such a cult hit. If you're a fan of shows like A Touch of Frost or Ashes to Ashes, then this is definitely a show to check out.
