Afterlife is a British television series created by and starring Ricky Gervais. The show follows Tony, a man whose life is turned upside down after his wife Lisa dies from cancer. Despite his grief, Tony decides to take up an interest in the afterlife and use his new ability to communicate with the dead to help people move on.

In the second episode of the first season titled "Lower than Bones," Tony continues to explore his newfound ability while dealing with the loss of his wife. The episode begins with Tony speaking to a man named Julian who claims to be able to see ghosts. Tony is initially skeptical but becomes more intrigued as Julian describes his experiences and provides details about Lisa's death that only she could have known.

As Tony considers Julian's claims, he is approached by Emma, a woman who is struggling to cope with the death of her husband. Emma is haunted by her husband's ghost and cannot move on until she gets closure about how he died. Tony agrees to help her and begins communicating with her deceased husband through a series of messages delivered by Emma. As Tony uncovers more information about the circumstances surrounding the man's death, he discovers a shocking truth that threatens to upend everything Emma thought she knew about her relationship.

Meanwhile, Tony also has to deal with his father who is struggling with depression after the death of his wife. Tony tries to console his father, but he is met with resistance as his father refuses to accept his help and insists on wallowing in his grief. Despite this, Tony continues to reach out and care for his father, showing a level of compassion that is rare given his normally selfish demeanor.

As the episode progresses, Tony's own journey towards acceptance becomes more apparent. He struggles with his own feelings of guilt over his wife's death and begins to explore the idea of an afterlife in greater depth. Through his interactions with Julian, Emma, and his father, Tony begins to see that there is more to life than the pain of loss and that he can find comfort in the knowledge that his wife is no longer suffering.

Overall, the second episode of Afterlife explores themes of grief and acceptance in a nuanced and thoughtful manner. Despite its dark subject matter, the show manages to strike a balance between humor and heart, creating a compelling and engaging series that will leave viewers wanting more.
