In Battle Creek, Josh Duhamel plays the role of a cynical and detective Russ Agnew, who has been serving in the police department of Battle Creek for over a decade. The series began airing on CBS in 2015 and the viewers were immediately hooked. Created by Vince Gilligan (also known for his work on Breaking Bad) and David Shore (whose most famous work is House, M.D.), Battle Creek has received critical acclaim for its humor, wittiness, and how it smartly weaves together the various storylines.

The series is set in the small town of Battle Creek, Michigan, where the police department is facing a serious issue of inadequate resources. One day, a new detective arrives from the FBI to the department, played by Dean Winters, and he is tasked with taking down a drug dealer network that has been operating in the town. The new detective, who is opposite in every way to Russ, is seemingly perfect and has all the latest equipment at his disposal. This creates immediate tension between the two.

Russ, being an old-school detective, is fed up with the lack of resources and feels like he isn't taken seriously enough. He has never solved a big case and is constantly facing pressure to do so. The conflict between the two detectives becomes the backbone of the show. Over time, they start to develop some respect for each other, but the animosity never entirely goes away.

Janet McTeer impressively plays the role of Commander Kim Guziewicz, who is extremely witty, a natural leader, and is responsible for overseeing the police department. From dealing with office politics to managing resources, she has a lot of responsibilities on her plate. Despite the challenges, she tends to hold the fort down and manages things to the best of her ability. Janet McTeer's performance was widely appreciated by both critics and fans.

Another significant character in the series is that of Kal Penn, who portrays Detective Fontanelle. He is Russ Agnew's partner, and one who tends to focus on the positive side of things. While he may not be the most experienced detective out there, he tries his best to make up for it with his energy and enthusiasm for his job.

Aubrey Dollar essays the role of Holly Dale, who is an attractive young woman and works as a detective for the department. She gets a lot of attention from her colleagues for obvious reasons, but she's no pushover. Despite the challenges she faces, she is an intelligent detective who is always up for a challenge.

Edward Fordham Jr. plays the role of detective Aaron Funkhauser. He is known for being extremely methodical, and the department relies heavily on his analytical abilities. Together, the ensemble cast creates an excellent and diverse team that has to tackle some pretty challenging cases in the small town they are tasked with serving.

The show's writing is the standout aspect of this series. The makers have masterfully woven together humor and drama to create a show that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. There are lots of twists and turns to keep the viewers engaged throughout the series. As expected from the creators of Breaking Bad, the series can be dark at times but never too serious.

In conclusion, Battle Creek is a smartly written, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining series. The performances from the cast members are top-notch, and the camaraderie between them is engrossing. The show has a perfect blend of humor, drama, and suspense that make it a must-watch for anyone looking for something exciting to watch. If you haven't watched it already, it's worth giving this series a shot.
