Elijah and Sydney take on a difficult case involving a Catholic school guidance counselor who is fired from her job for performing an emergency abortion on a student. The student was in danger of dying from a miscarriage when the guidance counselor made the decision to save her life. However, the school ultimately decides to let the counselor go for violating Catholic doctrine, sparking a heated debate around reproductive rights and religious freedom.

Meanwhile, Anthony takes on a different type of case when he defends a young woman accused of arson. The woman, Lourdes, claims that she started the fire in order to save her family from their abusive father. Anthony must navigate a challenging legal landscape in order to prove Lourdes' innocence and protect her from further abuse.

As the two cases unfold, the attorneys at Strait & Associates must grapple with their own personal demons. Sydney faces some difficult feelings when her ex-boyfriend returns to town, while Elijah struggles with the aftermath of his mother's death and the loss of his father's trust.
