Born in Africa is a documentary series that explores the lives of the indigenous people of Africa. In season 1, episode 2 titled "Dangerous Playground," the series delves into the life of children in Africa.

The episode begins by highlighting the various dangers that children in Africa face on a daily basis. With little access to sanitation, clean water, and healthcare, children in Africa are vulnerable to diseases like malaria, cholera, and diarrhea. Additionally, poor infrastructure and high poverty levels mean that children are often forced to engage in dangerous activities to make money, such as working in mines or selling goods on the street.

Despite these challenges, the episode also showcases the resilience and ingenuity of African children. We're introduced to Ndlovu, a 10-year-old boy who lives in a rural village in Zambia. Ndlovu wakes up early every day to help his family with farm work, and he also attends school.

Later in the episode, we see Ndlovu and his friends playing soccer in an open field. While the children are clearly having fun, the field is littered with rocks and debris, making it a dangerous place to play. One of the children falls and cuts himself, highlighting the lack of safe recreational spaces for children in Zambia.

The episode also explores the issue of child labor in Africa. We meet a young girl named Amina who works in a mine in Tanzania, carrying heavy bags of rocks to earn money for her family. Amina tells the camera crew that she dreams of becoming a doctor one day, but it's clear that her current circumstances make it difficult for her to achieve that goal.

The episode also looks at the role of education in improving the lives of African children. We're introduced to a group of children in Kenya who attend a school that was built specifically for children from impoverished backgrounds. The school provides free education, meals, and healthcare, allowing children to focus on their studies without the added pressure of worrying about basic needs.

Overall, "Dangerous Playground" offers a sobering look at the challenges that children in Africa face, while also highlighting their resilience and determination. The episode serves as a reminder of the importance of investing in education and healthcare in order to improve the lives of children in Africa and give them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
