Ep 6. For the Love of Dogs

Cesar Millan's Dog Nation follows world-renowned dog behaviorist Cesar Millan and his son Andre as they travel across the United States in search of dogs and their owners who need their help. In season 1 episode 6, titled "For the Love of Dogs," the father-son duo head to New York City to help a couple whose dog is exhibiting severe separation anxiety.

As soon as Cesar and Andre arrive at the couple's apartment, they are greeted by the sound of the dog, a six-year-old Yorkie named Marley, barking and whining uncontrollably. Marley's owners, Lindsey and Mike, explain that they adopted him from a rescue organization and since then he has become increasingly anxious whenever they leave him alone in the apartment.

Cesar quickly identifies the root of Marley's anxiety: he is not getting enough exercise or stimulation during the day. Cesar suggests that Lindsey and Mike take Marley for a walk before they leave for work to burn off some of his excess energy. He also recommends that they leave him with engaging toys or puzzles to keep him occupied while they are away.

Next, Cesar takes Marley for a walk around the city, hoping to give him some confidence and relieve his anxiety. While on their walk, they encounter several other dogs and their owners. Cesar takes this opportunity to reinforce basic obedience commands with Marley, such as sit and stay, to help build his confidence and calm his nerves around other dogs.

Throughout the episode, Cesar and Andre also meet other dogs and their owners in New York City, including a woman who runs a dog adoption center and a man who raises and trains training scent dogs. They learn about the different challenges facing dog owners in the city, such as finding enough space to exercise and socialize their dogs.

After spending the day with Marley and his owners, Cesar and Andre return to the apartment to see if their advice has made a difference. To their delight, Marley is much calmer and more relaxed, and no longer barks and whines when left alone. Lindsey and Mike are grateful for Cesar's help and are committed to providing Marley with the exercise and mental stimulation he needs to stay happy and healthy.
