Extra is a Mexican-American comedy-drama television series on Amazon Prime Video that features the story of hundreds of years of Mexican history through the eyes of four main characters: Ana (Karina Gidi), Luis (Hernán Mendoza), Carol (Verónica Langer), and Mario (Juan Carlos Vives). The show follows the four friends, two of whom are from Mexico and two from America, as they experience the cultural differences from each other's perspectives while living in Mexico City. Extra is created by Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, and Kyzza Terrazas.

Ana is a successful businesswoman, who tries to keep her personal life separate from her professional life. Luis is an expat American who is struggling to find a job in Mexico. Carol is a homemaker with two teenagers and a husband who is in jail. Mario is a struggling actor, who aspires to become a well-known performer. The show explores their personal and professional lives of these characters while also delving into the events and developments in Mexican society throughout the last few centuries.

Extra is known for its witty writing and relatable characters. Each character has their own unique personality, backstory, and struggles. The show's creators do an excellent job of weaving these details into the narrative, creating a vibrant world for the characters to inhabit. The dialogue is natural, and the performances are fantastic, making the characters feel like real people we could meet on the street.

The show also has an excellent sense of humor. Many of the comedic moments come from the cultural differences between the American characters and their Mexican counterparts. However, the humor never appears forced or offensive, rather it stems from the relatable characters' reactions to the situations they find themselves in.

Another aspect of Extra that sets it apart from other shows is the way it explores Mexican history. Every episode includes a segment that presents a historical event or fact about Mexico. The extra segment is not only informative but also entertaining and engaging. It adds an extra layer of depth to the show that one might not expect from a comedy-drama.

Extra also shows the audience the daily life of living in Mexico City. From street vendors to taxis, viewers are given a taste of life in this bustling city. The show beautifully captures the essence of this vibrant city and gives viewers a rare glimpse into the daily lives of its citizens.

Overall, Extra is an engaging, thoughtful, and enjoyable show entertaining to those who like to experience a mix of culture, history, and personal stories. It is well crafted, well acted, and well written, and has been widely received by a broad audience, with positive reviews all around.
