Tom Chadwick is back in America in episode 5 of "Family Tree". This time he's in Brooklyn, where he's hoping to discover more about his great grand uncle, Harry Chadwick. With the help of his cousin, Chadwick unearthed some interesting facts about his ancestors, and he's hoping to do the same for Harry.

Chadwick arrives in New York and heads straight to his cousin's house. There, he meets Pete, his cousin's husband, who insists on showing Chadwick around. Pete is loud, brash, and very American, and Chadwick is immediately out of his comfort zone. The two start to bond over a beer and a game of basketball before heading off to find a famous pizza place which, according to Pete, is the best in Brooklyn.

After several unsuccessful attempts to locate the elusive pizzeria, Chadwick and Pete head to a local bar where they meet some of Pete's friends. The group is lively and friendly, and Chadwick soon finds himself being drawn into their conversations. They talk about politics, sport, and life in general, and as the night wears on, Chadwick starts to feel more at home in America.

The next day, Chadwick goes to the Brooklyn Historical Society, where he meets Taylor, a young American who is going to help him find out more about Harry. Taylor is friendly and efficient, and together they start to dig through archives looking for clues about the elusive great-granduncle. Their search takes them all over the city, from libraries to cemeteries to churches, and along the way, Chadwick discovers more about the history of Brooklyn and the lives of the people who once lived there.

Meanwhile, back in London, Tom's sister Bea is struggling with her own family tree. After her mother's death, she finds a box of old photographs and letters, which she hopes will help her uncover more about her family's past. She asks her friend Monk to help her, but he's more interested in getting her to go on a date with him. Bea is reluctant at first, but after some persistent persuasion, she agrees.

They go to a restaurant, and Monk tries to impress Bea with his knowledge of wine and food. However, things quickly turn sour when he accidentally spills wine all over Bea's dress. She storms out of the restaurant in a fit of anger, and Monk is left feeling embarrassed and ashamed. When Bea gets home, she looks through the box of old photographs and finds a letter from her mother to her father, which reveals a shocking family secret.

Back in Brooklyn, Chadwick and Taylor are making progress with their search. They discover that Harry was a successful businessman who owned a shoe factory in the city. They also find out that he was involved in a scandalous affair with a married woman, which ended in tragedy. As Chadwick delves deeper into Harry's life, he also uncovers some uncomfortable truths about his own family, and he begins to question whether he really wants to know the whole truth.

The episode ends with Chadwick back in London, sitting on a park bench, contemplating his discoveries. He reflects on the past and wonders what the future holds for him and his family. The search for Harry has taken him on a journey of discovery, not just about his ancestors but about himself, and he realizes that he has a lot to be grateful for. As the camera pulls back from Chadwick, we see him sitting alone on the bench, lost in thought, but with a newfound sense of purpose and understanding.
