Ryan King, played by Matthew Perry, returns to work as a sports talk radio host after the sudden death of his wife. However, he struggles to move on from his grief and is required to attend therapy as a condition of returning to his job. In Go On season 1 episode 16 titled Go Deep, Ryan decides to help Steven, one of his therapy group members, to lose weight as a way to deal with his own grief.

The episode begins with Ryan being reprimanded by his boss, Mr. K, for being too maudlin on his radio show. Mr. K insists that Ryan needs to be more cheerful in order to keep his listeners, but Ryan is still struggling with the death of his wife. Ryan then attends his therapy group, where he learns that Steven has been struggling with his weight. Ryan decides to help Steven lose weight to take his mind off his own problems.

Ryan shows Steven the RaisinBuddy app, which he used to help him quit smoking. The app rewards the user with a virtual bunny every time they resist a craving. Ryan suggests that Steven use the app to track his food intake and to earn bunnies for eating healthy food. Steven is initially skeptical but agrees to try it out.

Meanwhile, Ryan’s co-worker Lauren is having trouble with her new roommate, a former child star named Charlie. Charlie is constantly playing practical jokes and making noise, much to Lauren’s annoyance. Lauren confides in Ryan, who suggests that she try to befriend Charlie instead of fighting with him. Lauren is hesitant, but eventually agrees to try.

Steven starts to see progress with his weight loss and is excited about it. However, he begins to obsess over his calorie intake, which puts a strain on his relationship with his wife. Ryan realizes that he has been using Steven’s weight loss to distract himself from his own problems and suggests that they both quit the RaisinBuddy app.

Lauren takes Ryan’s advice and starts to get along with Charlie, discovering that he is a kind and generous person. However, when Charlie plays a particularly cruel prank on Lauren, she confronts him and tells him to grow up. Charlie is hurt by this and decides to move out, leaving Lauren feeling guilty.

The episode ends with Ryan returning to his radio show, where he acknowledges his struggles with grief and thanks his listeners for their support. He also invites Steven to come on his show to talk about his weight loss journey.

Overall, Go On season 1 episode 16 is a touching episode that focuses on the different ways people cope with grief. The episode handles the subject matter with sensitivity and humor and features strong performances from the cast.
