Ep 21. Fast Breakup

Ryan King, a sports talk radio host, is facing a difficult time following the death of his wife, Janie. Lawyers at the radio station insist he attend grief counseling, where he meets a group of people who have also suffered major life losses. In episode 21 of the first season of Go On, entitled "Fast Breakup", Ryan and his friends are faced with a romantic dilemma.

The episode opens with Ryan's assistant, Carrie, who is determined to win her ex-boyfriend back. Ryan encourages her and suggests she ask him to join them for a couples retreat. Meanwhile, Anne is trying to beat up her boss's ex-wife on her company's basketball team. Ryan has a plan to help her become a better team player.

Later, Ryan meets his boss, in whose house Ryan has been living, to be informed that he is to vacate the premises. But Ryan has nowhere to go, so Lauren, who is on the rebound after breaking up with a guy named Wyatt, offers him a place to stay. Ryan turns down the offer as he is worried about everyone else if he is around. Lauren's recent break-up motivates Ryan to help her find love again. Ryan is determined to create an opportunity for Lauren to meet someone genuinely nice and suitable for her. In a game of matchmaker, Ryan sets her up with a man and gets a feel for how the date is going by using a microphone in Lauren's purse.

Carrie's plan for the couples retreat falls apart after her ex-boyfriend discovers that she has undergone plastic surgery since they parted ways. The ex-boyfriend becomes incredibly upset and storms away, leaving Carrie feeling rejected.

Ryan is coping the best way he knows how: getting back to work. He hosts a radio show where they discuss the growth of a man named Jim who lost his wife to cancer. Ryan is so focused on the healing process that he fails to realize that Lauren, whose feeling are growing towards him, is listening to every word. Ryan and Lauren start flirting, but Lauren’s elusiveness regarding Wyatt upsets Ryan and leaves him feeling frustrated.

Ryan's basketball plan for Anne has proven successful as she has improved her team working skills. Anne and Ryan celebrate in Ryan’s apartment. Meanwhile, Lauren goes to Wyatt's date, which has been set-up by roommates Careen and Mr. K. Seeing Lauren with Wyatt has Ryan feeling jealous, and he tries to work through his emotions. As he does, Lauren arrives back at the apartment with good news. She tells Ryan that Wyatt was lovely, but nothing happened between them. So, Ryan takes a chance and kisses Lauren, and they finally begin their romance.

"Fast Breakup" is an emotionally engaging episode that highlights the characters’ struggles to move past their heartbreak and live a life filled with new opportunities. The episode is one of the best of the series. The story builds a perfect pace, from Carrie's fake relationship, Anne's struggles with separation and divorce, and Ryan's emotional recovery after the loss of his wife. The episode presents the importance of support and the power of love in helping individuals move on from painful loss and heartbreak.
