Ryan King is at a support group session where he talks about how he downloaded a mobile game app to pass the time, and ended up staying up all night playing it. Steven, another member of the group, reveals that he's actually a professional video game player, and invites Ryan to check out his gaming setup in his apartment. Although Ryan is initially hesitant, he eventually agrees to visit Steven, and finds himself getting hooked on the game beyond his expectations.

Meanwhile, Lauren gets a call from her mother, who is in town and wants to visit. Lauren is apprehensive since her relationship with her mother is strained, but ultimately decides to let her come over. The visit doesn't go well, as Lauren's mother criticizes her for prioritizing work over family, and bringing shame to the family by getting a divorce. Lauren tries to stay calm and civil, but eventually loses her temper and kicks her mother out of the house.

Back at the gaming session, Ryan is doing surprisingly well, impressing Steven and his other friends with his skills. However, the game starts to become more intense, with higher stakes and more pressure to win. Ryan starts to lose his composure as he gets more entrenched in the game, becoming rude and dismissive towards Steven and his friends. Eventually, Ryan realizes that he's been neglecting his responsibilities, and that the game has become an unhealthy obsession for him. He apologizes to Steven and the others, and leaves to make amends with those he's let down.

Lauren's mother returns to her house, apologizing for her behavior earlier. Lauren tries to put her mother's criticisms aside, but realizes that they may have some merit. She decides to make a change in her life, and to prioritize her relationships with her family and loved ones.

Overall, this episode explores the theme of addiction, as Ryan becomes consumed by his video game obsession and Lauren's mother struggles with her own personal demons. The show also emphasizes the importance of recognizing one's own flaws and taking concrete steps towards personal growth and change.
