"God Friended Me" is a television show about Miles Finer, an outspoken atheist who runs a popular podcast discussing religion, and his unexpected journey after being friended by God on Facebook. The show explores themes of faith, family, love, hope, and second chances, and each episode follows Miles and his friends as they try to unravel the mysterious connections between the people God sends their way.

In the first episode, "Pilot," we are introduced to Miles, his best friend Rakesh, and his confident journalist sister, Ali. Miles' podcast, titled "The Millennial Prophet," is gaining popularity as he debates the existence of God and challenges his listeners to find evidence to support their beliefs. Miles decides to follow the prompts and meets Cara Bloom, a young woman who is conflicted about marrying her boyfriend, and John Dove, a struggling musician who is trying to overcome his addiction.

As Miles gets to know Cara and John, he realizes that their lives are connected, and he begins to question whether there is a higher power orchestrating these events. His skepticism is challenged further when he discovers that his estranged mother is in the hospital with a life-threatening condition. Miles is torn between his non-belief in God and the possibility that he may be sending him a message through the friend requests.

Throughout the episode, we also see glimpses of Rakesh's own personal struggles with dating and his desire to be promoted at his tech company, and Ali's bold move to quit her job and start her own online magazine. These subplots add depth to the characters and showcase their unique perspectives on faith and life.

As the episode comes to a close, Miles is faced with a decision about whether to visit his mother in the hospital and reconcile with his family. He is also left wondering whether he should continue to follow the prompts from God or go back to his old ways.
