H.R. Pufnstuf is a thirty-minute children's program created by Sid and Marty Krofft. The series ran two seasons in 1969 and 1970 and stars English child actor, Jack Wild, in the role of Jimmy. Jimmy and Freddie the magic flute are out for a day of fun and frolic when an evil witch named Witchiepoo tricks the boy to board her sinister ship. Promising a voyage filled with action and adventure, Jimmy and Freddie hop on board for a thrilling day at sea. However, Witchipoo has plans to kidnap Jimmy in order to steal his magic flute and she sends a violent storm to overturn the boat. Unable to hang on through the turbulent storm, Jimmy and Freddie fall overboard and are washed ashore.

Pufnstuf is the town's benevolent mayor and comes to rescue the boy before Witchiepoo can seize the flute. This endearing character is a six-foot dragon wearing white go-go boots and will serve to shelter and protect the lost boy in each episode.

Pufnstuf's kingdom is filled with wild and wacky characters including twin deputies named Kling and Klang. Other colorful characters include a wise old owl, a polka dotted horse and a ludicrous lion.

H.R. Pufnstuf is performed with live action on the set using actors in costumes rather than animation. Each episode of H.R. Pufnstuf is a story of conflict between Jimmy and the wicked witch and her never ending quest to steal the boy's magic flute. However, good always triumphs over evil and Mayor Pufnstuf is there to save the day.

The story lines, costumes and performances are outstanding and each episode contains a short musical scene with singing and dancing. The tunes are catchy and the lyrics are easy making the H.R. Pufnstuf episodes ideal for children of all ages.

The H.R. Pufnstuf series contains seventeen episodes, all videotaped in color. Each H.R. Pufnstuf episode is written with its own conflict and resolution script, and therefore, the series does not contain cliffhangers or any continuing story lines.
