In The Flesh is a post-apocalyptic drama series that explores the aftermath of a zombie uprising. The show's first episode centers around a young man named Kieren Walker, a former zombie who has been cured and is now reintegrating into society. The story takes place in the small rural town of Roarton in a post-zombie world. The government has found a cure for the zombie virus, and they have been able to reanimate those who were once living dead. However, the cured living dead are still discriminated against by society, who refer to them as "rotters" and see them as a threat.

Kieren, the show's protagonist, is one of those cured living dead. He is trying to adjust to his new life, living with his family in Roarton, but he still struggles with the memories of his time as a zombie, and the guilt of the things he did while he was undead. He was one of the "rabid" zombies who were the most violent and aggressive, and he remembers the terrible things he did to his victims.

As the episode unfolds, Kieren's family tries to help him cope with his new life. His sister Jem is supportive but has a hard time understanding his struggles, while his father Steve is less understanding and is angry that Kieren's reappearance has caused people in the town to become uneasy. Kieren's mother Sue is the most supportive member of the family, trying her best to make Kieren feel comfortable at home.

The episode introduces us to other main characters as well, such as Kieren's friend and fellow zombie Simon, and the town's vicar, who is leading a protest against the living dead and is preaching a message of hate and intolerance.

Through the episode, we learn more about the fate of the world following the zombie uprising. We find out that the government requires the living dead to take "daily medication" to keep their emotions and memories in check. We also learn that the living dead are required to wear contact lenses to cover up their "condition" and are generally not allowed to leave their homes at night.

The episode builds up to a tense and emotional scene at a community center in Roarton, where Kieren and other living dead are attending a support group meeting. They discuss their struggles, including their desire to remember their time as zombies and the difficulty of hiding their true selves from the world.

The episode ends with a shocking twist that sets up the main conflict for the rest of the season. Kieren discovers that his sister Jem has been involved with a group of anti-living dead militants who call themselves the "Human Volunteer Force." The group is dedicated to eradicating the living dead, using violence if necessary. Kieren is horrified by this development and must now navigate a world where his own family is turning against him.

Overall, In The Flesh's first episode is a compelling and thought-provoking introduction to its world and characters. The show's focus on themes of discrimination and identity are both timely and important, and the excellent performances by the cast make it a must-watch for fans of the post-apocalyptic genre.
