Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is the sequel series to the original Gundam and is set in the Universal Century timeline. The story takes place in the year UC 0087, seven years after the events of the One Year War. The Earth Federation has created the Titans, an elite military force tasked with hunting down remnants of the Principality of Zeon. However, the Titans soon become corrupt and begin to oppress the people they were meant to protect. The story follows Kamille Bidan, a young civilian who gets caught up in the conflict and ultimately becomes a pilot for the anti-Titan group AEUG (Anti-Earth Union Group).

The show features a wide cast of characters, both old and new. Tomomichi Nishimura voices Blex Forer, the leader of AEUG who mentors Kamille throughout the series. Hirotaka Suzuoki voices Bright Noa, the former captain of the White Base from the original Gundam who now serves as captain of the AEUG ship Argama. Kazuhiko Inoue voices Jerid Messa, a former Zeon pilot who now serves as a Titan and serves as Kamille's rival. Bin Shimada voices Paptimus Scirocco, a mysterious and charismatic man who seeks to control the Titans and gain ultimate power.

The show also features a number of female characters who are strong and independent. Maria Kawamura voices Four Murasame, a young woman who possesses psychic abilities and serves as a pilot for the Titans. Miyuki Matsuoka voices Reccoa Londe, a former Titan who defects to the AEUG and becomes a trusted member of their team. And Saeko Shimazu voices Emma Sheen, a talented pilot who becomes a love interest for Kamille and serves as his closest ally.

One of the things that sets Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam apart from other mecha anime of its time is its darker, more mature tone. The show doesn't shy away from showing the consequences of war, including death, destruction, and the toll it takes on people's lives. The characters are complex and flawed, with their own motivations and goals. The show also explores themes of politics, power, and morality, making it a thought-provoking watch.

Of course, as a mecha anime, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam also features plenty of giant robot battles.
