Mockingbird Lane

Mockingbird Lane first aired as a Halloween special on American network NBC as a test run for a planned season of the reworking of the classic sitcom The Munsters. The co-production between Crazy Dead Guy, Bad Hat Harry Productions and Universal Television took on a darker set of themes than the earlier incarnation of the family-friendly Munsters. The script written by Bryan Fuller for the first episode was intended to provide a back story of how the Munsters made their way to Mockingbird Lane and introduce the characters to a new audience. Mockingbird Lane was directed by Hollywood film director Bryan Singer, who is most famous for his work as director and creative force behind the X-Men series of movies.

Mockingbird Lane begins with a werewolf attack on a scout troop camping in the woods; at the end of the opening sequence, a young scout appears from the woods and was obviously responsible for the attack. We later discover the scout is Eddie Munster. Marilyn Munster, the human member of the family, finds 1313 Mockingbird Lane about to be torn down, as it was the site of a series of murders. Marilyn quickly buys the house for the rest of the Munsters to live in. Marilyn, Eddie, the vampire Grandpa and a version of Frankenstein's monster Herman move into the house and attempt to live a normal life; they are soon joined by Lily, Herman's wife.

Grandpa quickly tells Marilyn she must leave the house as he plans to feed on the neighbors and turn them into a group of slaves to carry out his will. Tensions mount as the next full moon draws close, and the family must decide whether to tell Eddie he is a werewolf. To relieve the pain of finding out that he is a werewolf, Herman and Lily buy Eddie a pet dragon to live under the stairs and keep him under control when he turns into a werewolf.
