Expedition Wild: Project Kodiak is the fifth episode of National Geographic: Wild's first season. In this episode, renowned wildlife expert Casey Anderson sets out on an expedition to Kodiak Island, Alaska, to learn about the region's unique ecosystem and the animals that call it home.

Casey begins his journey by meeting with local biologists to gain a better understanding of the island's top predators, the Kodiak bears. These bears are some of the largest in the world, with fully grown males weighing up to 1,500 pounds. Casey joins the biologists on a trip to a remote part of the island where they hope to observe the bears in their natural habitat.

As they make their way through dense forests and across rocky terrain, Casey and the team come across a mother and her cubs. The biologists explain to Casey that female Kodiak bears are especially protective of their cubs and that he needs to be careful not to get too close. Despite the risks, Casey is able to capture some incredible footage of the bears, including them hunting for food and playing in a nearby river.

With the help of a local fisherman, Casey is able to witness another incredible natural phenomenon: the annual salmon run. Each year, millions of salmon return to the rivers of Kodiak Island to spawn. This attracts a variety of predators, including eagles, otters, and bears, all hoping to catch a meal.

As Casey continues his journey, he ventures into the mountains to learn more about the unique plant life that grows in the region. He meets with a local botanist who shows him some of the rare species that have adapted to survive in the harsh environment. Casey also learns about the impacts of climate change on the region, which may have a significant impact on the plants and animals that call it home.

One of the highlights of the episode is when Casey and the team are approached by a group of curious sea otters. These playful creatures have no fear of humans and are known for their playful antics. Casey is able to get up close to the otters and even captures some footage of them using tools, which is a rare behavior for animals.

Throughout this episode of National Geographic: Wild, viewers are treated to stunning footage of Kodiak Island and its incredible wildlife. From soaring eagles to massive bears, Casey Anderson's Expedition Wild: Project Kodiak is a fascinating look at one of the most unique and beautiful places on the planet.
