Natsume Yujincho is an anime series that follows a young boy named Takashi Natsume, who has the ability to see spirits. In season 1 episode 20, titled "That Which You Must Not Call," Natsume encounters a dangerous yokai that he accidentally awakened from slumber.

The episode starts off with Natsume taking a peaceful walk in the forest. However, his tranquility is quickly shattered when he stumbles upon a mysterious flower blooming in the middle of the path. As he leans in to observe it, he feels a sudden chill run down his spine. Something is not right.

Soon after, he comes across a strange rock formation that he can't shake off his mind. It reminds him of an ancient yokai phenomenon that he once read about. This leads Natsume to believe that he might have accidentally stumbled upon something dangerous.

As the day turns into night, Natsume discovers the true horror of his discovery. The yokai that he awakened from its slumber is none other than the infamous "Youkai of Calamity" - a yokai that brings misfortune and disaster wherever it goes. Its very presence causes trees to wither, water to turn foul, and crops to fail.

Feeling overwhelmed and ill-equipped to deal with such a powerful entity, Natsume turns to the Book of Friends for guidance. He finds out that the person who once possessed the Yokai of Calamity had a special tree that acted as a binding agent, keeping the yokai's power in check.

Natsume sets out to find this tree, hoping that it hasn't been destroyed or moved since the last time it was seen. With the help of his guide cat, Nyanko-sensei, Natsume scours the forest for the tree - all while trying to avoid the yokai that seems to be hot on their trail.

Their search takes them to a nearby shrine where they meet a monk who seems to know more about the Yokai of Calamity than he lets on. After some persuasion, the monk reveals that the Yokai of Calamity is a manifestation of human misery and despair. In other words, it feeds off human suffering. The monk warns Natsume to be careful because the yokai is a formidable foe that cannot be tamed easily.

With renewed resolve and a newfound understanding of the yokai's nature, Natsume presses on with his search. They eventually find the tree they're looking for, but it's guarded by the Yokai of Calamity itself.

In a tense showdown, Natsume tries to reason with the yokai, explaining that it doesn't have to cause harm to humans to exist. He tells the yokai that humans are capable of creating joy and happiness just as easily as they are capable of creating despair and misery. To prove his point, Natsume suggests that the yokai visit a nearby village where people are preparing for a festival.

The yokai, intrigued by the prospect, agrees to follow Natsume and Nyanko-sensei to the village. What follows is a heartwarming scene where the yokai gets to experience the joy and wonder of the festival. It's a poignant moment that underscores the beauty of human connection and the power of positivity.

By the end of the episode, the yokai is no longer a threat to Natsume or the people around him. It seems to have found a new purpose in life and has discovered that there's more to existence than just causing misery and despair.

"That Which You Must Not Call" is a powerful episode that showcases the depth and complexity of the Natsume Yujincho series. It's a story about redemption and compassion that's both heartwarming and suspenseful. Fans of the series are sure to love this episode, which serves as a perfect example of what makes Natsume Yujincho such a beloved anime.
