SpongeBob Squarepants, 10 Happiest Moments Season 1 Episode 7

Ep 7. The Graveyard Shift

  • May 17, 2003

In the episode "The Graveyard Shift" of SpongeBob Squarepants, 10 Happiest Moments season 1 episode 7, SpongeBob and Squidward are tasked with working the night shift at the Krusty Krab. Squidward is scared of the dark and the two begin to tell each other spooky stories. Squidward tells the story of the Hash-Slinging Slasher, a former fry cook who is said to come back every Tuesday night to seek revenge. SpongeBob becomes scared and the two think they see the Hash-Slinging Slasher outside. They discover it was only a live-action pirate statue and the two begin to laugh.

As they continue to work, strange occurrences begin to happen. The lights flicker, there is a spooky phone call, and the cash register repeatedly says "Redrum" (murder backwards). They begin to believe that the Hash-Slinging Slasher is real and is after them. In an attempt to ward off the slasher, SpongeBob puts on a ridiculous pair of boots and does a "hash-slinging slasher" routine.

Just as they think the coast is clear, the real Hash-Slinging Slasher appears. It turns out to be just the new fry cook, who was going to replace SpongeBob. The two realize they had nothing to be scared of and laugh it off.

The episode ends with Squidward's exhaustion, as he has to work the next morning as well. SpongeBob asks, "Don't you guys ever take a break?" and the episode closes with the infamous "I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready" catchphrase.
