In "Grooming Gary," the sixth episode of season one of SpongeBob SquarePants, Snails Meow, we see SpongeBob taking care of his beloved pet snail, Gary. SpongeBob notices that Gary's shell is getting dull and decides that it's time for a grooming session.

As SpongeBob prepares to groom Gary, he sets up a spa-like atmosphere, complete with candles and soothing music. He also dons a headband and apron, complete with the word "groomer" embroidered on it. SpongeBob's excitement is palpable as he begins the grooming process, using various tools and products to get Gary looking his best.

However, as the grooming process goes on, Gary begins to show signs of discomfort and irritation. He tries to run away several times, but SpongeBob stops him and continues with the grooming. Eventually, Gary becomes so upset that he runs away, leaving SpongeBob feeling hurt and confused.

Feeling guilty about what happened, SpongeBob sets out to find Gary and make things right. He searches high and low, finally finding Gary at a seedy snail race track. There, he discovers that Gary is actually a great race snail and has been secretly racing for money to help support SpongeBob.

SpongeBob is shocked and impressed, but also realizes that he needs to apologize to Gary for not understanding him better. He does so and they reconcile, with SpongeBob promising to love and appreciate Gary for who he is, rather than trying to change him.
