Watch The Almighty Johnsons

The Almighty Johnsons is a dramatic comedy series about four brothers from New Zealand -- Olaf, Anders, Mikkel, and Axl -- who have super-human Norse God powers. The Johnson brothers soon discover that being the incarnation of a god isn't all its cracked up to be. The youngest brother, Axl, finds out on his 21st birthday about the family's long-held secret. He also discovers that a group of nasty goddesses want he and his brothers dead.

The brothers don't quite know what to do with their new found powers or how to control them. Only the goddess Frigg knows how to restore the brothers' powers so that they can protect themselves from all who can cause them harm. Axl must find Frigg before the goddesses find both her and his family. In the meantime, the brothers find that even god-like powers won't help them navigate through the perils of their mortal lives.

The Almighty Johnsons Full Episode Guide

  • The Johnsons and their associated significant others, are coming to grips with the news that they will soon be wishing farewell to their Godly side, which will ascend to Asgard, leaving them as mere mortals.

  • The Johnsons are trying to deal with the facts of the matter. Yes, they have found the Frigg - actually for real, it would seem; but there are now two Odins (Axl and Mike) laying claim to the title. Adding to their confusion is the fact that Hanna/Frigg refuses to be rushed into choosing who the rightful one is. She has told them she will get back to them when she's ready to make that decision.

  • A chance discovery, as he walks in on Stacey performing her Yggdrasil pole-dancing trick for Olaf and Ingrid, leads Axl to consider the possibility of using The Stick to assist in the Frigg-hunt.

  • Zeb dreams of a beautiful Frigg, rising from the waters of a fjord, in a beer commercial. When he awakes he shares this vision with Axl, suggesting that they can find the Frigg by doing a casting call for a fictional Frigg in a fictional commercial for this fictional beer. In this way, Zeb thinks, they will lure the real Frigg to them. Axl is fired up at this genius idea.

  • The Gundersen for Mayor campaign is in full swing now, with Dawn front and centre, keeping Colin and Anders on message and on track. Colin, especially, is enjoying being whipped into shape by Dawn, and demands that she accompany him to a function he must attend.

  • Axl wakes up in a strange bed, with a beautiful barmaid called Suzie. It transpires that after getting thrown up on by Derrick, Whangamaungamoa rather improved, with Axl getting to drink lots of beer and then, obviously, getting on rather fabulously with Suzie.

  • An awkward family reunion, as Mike and his father Johan (aka Joe) are reunited after many years apart, here in the kitchen of Michele's house. Joe has no real explanation for his absence of many years, other than to say it is in his nature.

  • The morning after the night before, and Gaia is doing the walk of shame, returning to the flat from her tryst with Anders. Axl is waiting, along with the ruins of the apple tree, and Gaia has the opportunity to tell the truth; to confess her sins. But does she?

  • We pick up the action mere hours after the ceremony at the lake, wherein Gaia became neither Frigg nor Papatuanuku, but the Goddess Idun - the grower of the apples of the Gods and eternal beloved of Bragi.

  • It is the day of Gaia's actual 21st and, therefore, the day of her attainment. Will she become Frigg? Or is Papatuanuku her destiny? Axl and Gaia wake up together, in Axl's bed, to face whatever the day brings - though the first thing it brings is Zeb, who is one step ahead of Axl in that he has actually bought Gaia a birthday present.

  • Axl and Gaia's escape from the real world lands them in a strange B&B as Mike discovers he's being watched.

  • As Axl deals with duelling prophecies, a cold wind sweeps in from the North, leading to a marriage Anders never saw coming. Meanwhile Olaf makes an intriguing discovery at the bottom of a bottle.

  • A rescue mission, a roast chicken, a tiny car and, for one particular person, the weirdest day ever.

  • Sometimes all it takes is a door getting kicked down, and a large man walking in, for many many truths to be revealed.

  • Axl finds out that the path to a benevolent God is strewn with idiots and half-wits.

  • As Ty sleeps soundly in his bed, Colin stands over him, speaking in Old Norse. As Colin walks round Ty's bed, flames spring up behind him, and by the time his work is done, Ty sleeps on, surrounded by walls of fire. Later, to a panicked Ingrid, Ty - singed but very much alive - reveals one of the benefits of running cold - the ability to fight fire with ice. And Ty most definitely knows this was an attempt on his life - one he's been expecting.

  • Axl, Zeb and Gaia stumble in, drunk, returning home from a Pimps 'n' Ho's party. The next morning 'Axl' awakes to find that 'he' is still wearing the dress, but some kind of Godly transformation has taken place and 'he' is now a she: a tall, blonde, very attractive woman.

  • Ty and Agnetha team up to pull off a seemingly perfect cover-up.

  • Mike's bar opening ends up being unforgettable as Ty continues his downward spiral and Gaia starts to lose control.

  • Axl learns that to be a better God he must be a better Man while Ty is scarred (literally) for life.

  • In the second season premiere, the boys' real mother enters the picture.
