Ep 5. Secrets

Tricked season 1 episode 5, titled "Secrets," follows magician Ben Hanlin as he devises and executes elaborate pranks on unsuspecting members of the public. Throughout the episode, Hanlin's tricks are centered around uncovering people's secrets, both big and small.

The episode begins with Hanlin lurking outside a library, where he has set up a hidden camera in order to capture the reactions of unsuspecting patrons. He approaches a man reading a book and introduces himself as a documentary filmmaker interested in learning about people's secrets. Hanlin offers the man a hundred pounds to reveal something he has never told anyone else before. The man hesitates at first, but eventually confesses to having an affair with his best friend's wife. Hanlin then reveals that he is not actually a documentarian, but a magician who has been hired to prank the man.

Later in the episode, Hanlin enlists the help of two actors to carry out a trick at a charity fundraiser. The actors are playing a couple in the midst of a dramatic argument, when Hanlin approaches them and offers to help. He tells them that he specializes in resolving conflicts and proceeds to use a series of magic tricks to get them to open up about their secrets. As it turns out, the couple has been hiding a major secret from one another that is threatening to tear their relationship apart. With Hanlin's guidance, they eventually confess their secrets and reconcile.

Another segment of the show involves Hanlin pranking a group of friends at a pub. He begins by approaching them with a deck of cards and claiming that he can guess their secrets by reading their minds. The friends are initially skeptical, but as Hanlin begins to reveal their secrets one by one, they become increasingly unnerved. Ultimately, Hanlin reveals that he has been secretly recording their conversations in order to gather information about their secrets ahead of time.

Throughout the episode, Hanlin's pranks range from harmless to somewhat more invasive. In one segment, he poses as a psychic medium and convinces a woman that he can communicate with her deceased husband. Hanlin ultimately reveals that he is not actually a medium, but has been using hidden cameras and microphones to stage the entire interaction.

As always, the show is entertaining and frequently surprising. Viewers will no doubt be left wondering how they would react in Hanlin's various scenarios, and what secrets they might be hiding themselves. Overall, Tricked season 1 episode 5 is a highly engaging and entertaining installment of the series.
