Waka Waka! The Real Trailer for 'The Muppets' Hits! Plot Revealed! Watch it Here!

So far, the advertising campaign for "The Muppets" has been only a series of short spoof trailers, mocking "Green Lantern," "The Hangover: Part II," and romantic comedies.

The last one acknowledged how frustrating that was getting, as Jason Segel notes during the trailer, "Wait. Wait, stop. Is this another 'Muppets' trailer parody? Why don't we show a real trailer? I mean, what are we hiding? Did we make the movie in Swedish or something?"

Well, we finally got a real trailer, and it's not in Swedish. Disney released the trailer today along with a complete plot synopsis, so not only do we get a sample of the funny stuff in the movie, but we get to hear what it's about. Here's the full synopsis:

"On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino house band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate."

The script, which is written by "How I Met Your Mother" star Jason Segel (who also stars), seems to play off of Segel's love for The Muppets in his childhood (he cites them as a major comedy influence) and also throws in some political commentary to boot.
