Yidio Video of the Day: Brand New 'X-Men: First Class' Trailer

After months of curiosity and reports of a rushed production schedule, we now have our first look at the latest entry into the "X-Men" franchise - the beginning.

The trailer for "X-Men: First Class," which debuted today via 20th Century Fox's X-Men Facebook page, instantly sets the stage for what we're in for when the film is released on June 3rd.

There are more mutants than you can count (some familiar, many new), huge set pieces, and, more surprising for audiences, John F. Kennedy. Yes, the film is set in the early 1960s to give some sort of continuity to the whole affair, and the costumes reflect the streamlined, bold colors of Jack Kirby's classic drawings from that era.

In the past few weeks, doubts have sprung up as to whether or not the impending release date would cause trouble for the finished film, as even a few weeks ago, the film was still shooting.

"I'm at that stage where I feel like a boxer against the ropes," director Matthew Vaughn told the LA Times in a piece published on January 19th, "I'm just throwing punches and taking them as they come and making sure I don't hit the canvas."

Hardcore fans will recall the rushed production schedule of "X-Men: The Last Stand," during which director Brett Ratner replaced Matthew Vaughn only a little over a month before production began, and wrapped a mere four months before the release date.

Though it grossed more than "X-Men" or "X2," it was widely derided as the worst of the franchise until "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" was released. That said, Matthew Vaughn already has a stronger track record than Ratner, with "Layer Cake," "Stardust," and "Kick-Ass" showing a strong blend of action, emotion, and attitude, and with a more time to prepare before the shooting, he had a lot of room for development.

We'll all find out together when "X-Men: First Class" hits theaters on June 3rd.
