More Spies, More Justice: FX Shows 'Justified' and 'Archer' Renewed

More Spies, More Justice: FX Shows 'Justified' and 'Archer' Renewed If you like cowboy justice or misbehaving spies, it's a good day for you. FX has announced that it has renewed both "Archer" and "Justified" for new seasons.

"Justified," which follows a southern sheriff (Timothy Olyphant) out to clean up his town, improved its ratings by a modest eight percent over last season. It's a small improvement, but enough to earn the show a 13-episode third season. "Justified" has been well-reviewed critically, and draws in an average of about 4 million viewers each week.

The animated "Archer," meanwhile, improved a whopping 20 percent in its ratings over last season, but its season one numbers weren't too high to begin with (it drew in a little more than one million viewers each week on average). Still, that kind of uptick is promising, especially for such a funny show that could benefit from some word-of-mouth promotion.

These renewals follow the news that the critically-acclaimed "Lights Out" won't be renewed, as no number of great reviews could improve viewership.

There are plans to add another animated comedy, "Townies," to the FX schedule in early 2012. "Townies" was created by the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" gang, and if it gets picked up it will be animated by Adam Reed and his "Archer" team. That could be one heck of a combination.
