Ali: The Champion of the Century is a sports biopic about boxer Muhammad Ali and was released in 1987. The film highlights the beginning of Ali's childhood in Louisville, Kentucky when he was formerly known then as Cassius Clay. After his boxing debut in 1960, he was becoming a well-known fighter in the boxing world. In 1964 he won the Heavyweight Champion of the World title belt and became a Muslim in the Nation of Islam. He won many of his fights until 1967 when his title was removed. The reason being is he refused to join the US army during the Vietnam War based on his religious beliefs. He was unable to fight for four years until his case was overturned by the Supreme Court in 1971. In 1974 he regained the Heavyweight title when he defeated George Foreman in Zaire. The film shows footage of the Champ from his beginnings and from his lows. Many friends and former boxers were interviewed and told their side of the story and about the Champ. Overall, Muhammad Ali is a fighter both on and out the boxing ring, where he made a difference in the world.
