- 57 min
This interesting video illustrates life in American universities in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Also included are films showing the education and training of African Americans as part of the World War II effort. It gives a good overview of how African American students were being trained for wartime. There is a movie made up of materials from the white radical leftist student movement. Another clip shows the Columbia Revolt-the first of many future battles between students and authority. An interesting film in this video is an exhaustive explanation of personal care and daily habits of cleanliness, demonstrating how to keep the skin, hair, nails, and teeth clean and healthy. Another informative film exemplifies how limited the opportunities for young women in higher education were because of the widespread fear that a college education would make girls unfit for marriage.
