The animated An American Tale: Fievel Goes West follows the story of Fievel Mousekewitz and his family as they emigrate from New York City to the wild west. Disillusioned by the dangerous cats roaming the streets of the big city, they fall for an elaborate ploy by an evil genius cat to draw them out to the west. On the train Fievel learns of the nefarious plot to lure mice for the cats to eat out west and is thrown off the train by the evil cat Cat R. Waul's spider lackey. Fievel is left to traverse the desert on his own until he runs into the Mousekewitz's family friend Tiger, a cat who does not eat mice, who tried to go with them to find his former girlfriend. Tiger was chased away from the train by dogs and into the wilds alone. Fievel leaves Tiger in a Native American mouse settlement and continues to Green River where his family hopes he will find them. The townspeople don't believe Fievel's warning about Cat R. Waul's plans to trap them, and when he goes to Waul himself, he narrowly escapes being killed thanks to his sister's singing voice distracting the cat. Waul sends Tanya to Tiger's ex, Miss Kitty, now a performer. Kitty preps Tanya for a performance singing on stage. Meanwhile Fievel escapes from Waul's lackeys and meets his own idol, the dog sheriff Wylie Burp. Burp agrees to help the mice and trains Tiger to become his deputy. As the lawmen and Fievel take on Waul's minions, Tanya and Miss Kitty save all the mice set to be caught in a trap. Using that same mouse trap, Tiger sends Waul and his fellow cats out of the town. Tiger and Miss Kitty get back together, and both Mousekewitz children achieve their dreams, as Tanya becomes a renowned singer and, before leaving town, Burp gives his sheriff badge to Fievel.
