The Astro-Zombies is a campy science fiction horror film. It's very much in keeping with late-1960s drive-in B-movies of the time. Dr. DeMarco is a stereotypical mad scientist who is fired from the Space Agency. Partly out of revenge and partly to show off his scientific superiority, he constructs Astroman, a sort of robotic Frankenstein made from the dead bodies of serial killers. True to form, he loses control of the creation and Astroman runs amok. Many trappings of horror and science fiction find their way into the story, including brain transplants, a hunchback lab assistant, aliens, space battles, and government conspiracies, all in the spirit of fun.
