Watch Bees & Other Hymenopterans

This program introduces the members of the order Hymenoptera, which have a characteristic slim shape and two pairs of jointed, membranous wings. Distinctions are made between social insects, such as bees, wasps, and ants, and solitary Hymenopterans, such as carpenter bees and ichneumon flies. The order is further distinguished by noting that living in colonies, as termites do, is not a qualification. The social divisions within a beehive and the life cycle of the honeybee are closely examined.
