For many years, leaders on both sides of the Cold War had been vowing to get to the moon before the other could succeed in doing so. Entrenched in a heated race that captivated audiences not only in these two countries, but all over the world, the U.S. and the Soviet Union pulled all and any stops necessary to win. Behind the scenes, people from both sides were dying painful and tragic deaths trying to make the journey happen.
