Watch Champagne Journal Part I: Introduction, Chateau de Versailles
- 2011
- 27 min
Champagne Journal shares the story of the people of this beautiful region of France who've prevailed over one hardship after another, and how this extraordinary wine's popularity spread around the globe, thanks in large part to the Kings of France, Napoleon, and invading foreign armies. The wines of Champagne were mostly known locally until the French kings, who resided in the Palace of Versailles, helped spread their popularity within France and other countries. Louis XIV first tasted champagne as a teenager at his coronation in Rheims in 1654, and afterwards, he rarely drank anything else. Filmed at the Palace, Le Vicomte de Rohan shares more on Versailles and its connections to champagne and America. (Portraits of his ancestors are displayed inside the Chateau!)
