Geisha Assassin is a 2008 action-packed Japanese film that follows the journey of Kikuyakko, a young geisha who seeks revenge for the murder of her mentor. The movie, directed by Gô Ohara and produced by Shintaro Katsu, features a talented cast including Minami Tsukui in the lead role, Shigeru Kanai, and Nao Nagasawa. The movie takes place in the Edo period of Japan, a time when samurai warriors, geishas, and ninja clans ruled the land. Kikuyakko, a determined geisha who is skilled in the art of combat, escapes from her abusive husband only to be taken under the wing of Oshin, a kind-hearted and wise geisha. She teaches Kikuyakko the secrets of being a geisha- from applying make-up to entertaining guests. However, soon after, Oshin is brutally murdered by a group of samurai led by Kurenai, a ruthless and powerful leader. This catastrophic event sets Kikuyakko on a perilous journey of revenge.

Kikuyakko's quest for revenge leads her to join a group of female warriors known as the Sisterhood of Blood, who are prompted to protect a secret scroll that holds the power to control the world. However, their mission is threatened by Kurenai, who is after the scroll as well. Kikuyakko must ultimately choose to either seek her own vendetta or protect the secret scroll that the Sisterhood has sworn to protect.

The action sequences in the movie are impressively choreographed, and the fight scenes are realistic despite being filmed in a traditional Japanese style. The lead actor, Tsukui, who is an accomplished martial artist in her own right, brings her skill and experience to the role, creating scenes of both beauty and brutality. Her performance throughout the movie brings out a fierce determination that's endearing to the audience.

The supporting cast also provides excellent performances, with Shigeru Kanai taking on the role of Kikuyakko's abusive husband, and Nao Nagasawa as Oren, a member of the Sisterhood.

Aside from the action scenes, Geisha Assassin also explores the elements of the geisha tradition, and the importance of sisterhood and loyalty among women. The group of female warriors in the Sisterhood of Blood speak of their own hardships and tragedies, forging their camaraderie through their shared pain. The movie presents an empowering message about women supporting each other in times of crisis, setting an example of how women can help each other to overcome challenges and emerge stronger.

Overall, Geisha Assassin is a must-see movie for action movie enthusiasts, martial arts fans, and those who enjoy period dramas. It is a movie that successfully blends elements of action, drama, and culture, telling a compelling story with a strong female lead. The film has a runtime of around 85 minutes, which is concise, considering the scope of the story. Check out Geisha Assassin if you're interested in a movie filled with drama, action, and excellent performances.
