John Rabe: The good Nazi of Nanking is a historical drama based on the life of John Rabe, the leader of the Nazi party in Nanjing during the 1937 Nanjing Massacre. The movie is directed by Florian Gallenberger, who also co-wrote the script with Benjamin Herrmann. It was released in 2009 and stars Ulrich Tukur in the lead role. The movie is set in the year 1937, when China was occupied by the Japanese army, and Nanjing was under siege. John Rabe, a German businessman working for Siemens, was the head of the International Committee for the Nanking Safety Zone. The committee was formed to protect the Chinese refugees in the city during the war. John, who was a member of the Nazi Party, was responsible for organizing the safety zone and protecting the people from the Japanese soldiers.

The movie begins with John Rabe arriving in Nanjing with his wife, Dora, to work for Siemens. He is welcomed by his Chinese colleagues and settles down to a peaceful life. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when the Japanese army invades Nanjing and begins a brutal massacre of the Chinese people. John, who is shocked and horrified by the inhumanity of the Japanese soldiers, decides to take matters into his own hands and sets up the safety zone for the Chinese refugees.

He manages to convince the Japanese authorities that the safety zone is a neutral territory and that any harm done to the Chinese inside would be considered an attack on Germany. He also forms an alliance with the Chinese leader Tang Shengzhi, who agrees to help him in his mission. John and Tang work tirelessly to protect the Chinese refugees from the Japanese soldiers who are raping, killing and looting.

John's efforts to protect the Chinese people are not without obstacles. He is forced to navigate through the political minefield of Nazi-Germany and Imperial Japan, and has to deal with the indifferent attitude of his Nazi superiors in Germany. He also has to face opposition from some of the other members of the International Committee, who are more interested in protecting their own interests rather than helping the Chinese people.

The movie, which is based on a true story, does an excellent job of portraying the horror of the Nanjing Massacre and the heroic efforts of John Rabe to protect the Chinese refugees. The scenes of the massacre are brutal and hard to watch, but they are necessary to show the extent of the inhumanity of the Japanese soldiers. The movie is also a tribute to the Chinese people who suffered through the horrors of the Nanjing Massacre, and to the foreigners who risked their lives to protect them.

The acting in the movie is superb, especially Ulrich Tukur, who gives an outstanding performance as John Rabe. He is able to portray the character's sense of moral duty and his struggle to balance his loyalty to his country and his compassion for the Chinese people. The supporting cast is also very good, especially Liu Ye, who plays the Chinese leader Tang Shengzhi.

The movie's production design is excellent, and the cinematography captures the mood and atmosphere of the city during the war. The music is also well done, and complements the movie's tone and mood.

Overall, John Rabe: The good Nazi of Nanking is a highly recommended movie for anyone interested in history and human rights. It is a powerful and moving story of heroism and sacrifice, and a reminder of the importance of compassion and empathy in times of war and conflict.
