Keep Cool is a Chinese romantic comedy film, directed by Zhang Yimou and released in 1997. It stars Wen Jiang as Zhang Feng, a book salesman who is struggling with a mid-life crisis and a failing marriage. Baotian Li and Ying Qu are also part of the movie as Liu Yeping and Wang Xiaolin, respectively. The film is set in the summer of 1997 and takes place in Beijing. Zhang Feng is a 29-year-old struggling salesman who goes door-to-door selling books. He is married to his high school sweetheart, but their marriage is on the rocks as they live separate lives in the same apartment. One day, while he is out selling books, Zhang Feng meets his high school classmate, Na Na (played by Li Xiaolu), who is now a successful and confident young woman. Na Na invites him to her apartment for a drink, but Zhang Feng declines.

At the same time, Liu Yeping (played by Li), a shy and introverted man, starts working at a local television station. Yeping falls in love with his colleague, Liu Yuehong (played by Wang), who is much more outgoing than him. Yeping lacks confidence and is afraid to express his feelings for Yuehong, which makes him unable to make a move on her.

As the two couples navigate their way through their love lives, they find themselves drawn to each other in unexpected ways. Zhang Feng and Na Na start seeing each other more frequently, while Yeping and Yuehong begin to connect on a deep emotional level.

The film's central theme is about people finding love even when they are not looking for it. It highlights the idea that there is a special someone out there for everyone, and sometimes it takes time and patience to find them. Zhang Feng and Yeping both face their own personal struggles before they can open themselves up to new possibilities in love.

The movie is filled with memorable scenes, such as Na Na and Zhang Feng dancing together in the rain or Yeping finally mustering up the courage to kiss Yuehong. The film's signature scene is when Zhang Feng goes to a park and sits down on a bench next to an older gentleman who shares his own story of love and loss. The conversation that ensues is both touching and heartwarming.

The cinematography of the film is rich and vibrant, capturing the essence of Beijing's cityscape. The soundtrack is also notable, featuring prominent Chinese folk songs that add a layer of nostalgia and longing to the film.

The performances of the cast are excellent, with Wen Jiang delivering a standout performance as Zhang Feng. His portrayal of a man wrestling with his own personal demons and rediscovering his passion for life is both honest and relatable. Li Xiaolu also shines as Na Na, portraying a confident woman who is not afraid to take risks in her love life.

In conclusion, Keep Cool is a charming romantic comedy that deals with themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. Zhang Yimou's direction, coupled with the excellent performances of the cast, makes this a must-watch film for anyone who enjoys a good love story.
