Gifu Castle, originally called "Inabayama Castle", was built as a fortress on the top of Mount Kinka overlooking Nagara River in 1201 during the Kamakura period. Nobunaga Oda, a powerful feudal lord, captured the castle and changed the name to Gifu Castle in 1567. He moved his base of operation here, and subsequently unified the nation for the first time. Enjoy the beautiful artistry!
