This comedic documentary focuses on Ravi Patel, a 29-year-old Indian-American actor and comedian who is heartbroken after breaking up with his long-time American girlfriend, Audrey. While on a family trip to India, he is relentlessly hounded by his parents to find a wife and finally agrees to let them arrange a marriage for him. Ravi and his older sister, a documentary filmmaker, decide to film his matchmaking journey. According to his parents, Vasant and Champa, Ravi must marry an Indian woman who also has the last name Patel. They send out resumes to other Patel families across the United States in hopes of finding a match, and Ravi goes on a series of arranged dates in Los Angeles, Dallas and Toronto. Sadly, there is no chemistry between Ravi and his dates. Next, he tries out a few specialty Indian-American dating sites. When that doesn't work, he attends a massive Patel convention where singles get to mingle in search of a spark. Along the way, Ravi talks with other Indian-American and mixed-race couples about their experiences with parental pressure, social awkwardness and expectations. Ravi's parents also tell the story of their arranged marriage, which took place less than 10 minutes after they first met. Meanwhile, serious issues are addressed, such as the revelation that skin tone is a big point of contention among matchmaking parents. While searching for his future life partner, Ravi learns more about his true personality, the value of tradition in a modern world and how to trust in the wisdom and love of his family.
