Old Men in New Cars is a 2002 Danish film directed by Lasse Spang Olsen. The movie follows the story of three recently-released convicts who go on a wild road trip across Denmark. The trio includes Rune (Kim Bodnia), a tough guy who has just served a prison sentence for bank robbery, shown to have a permanent grin on his face, an ability to think on his feet, and a talent for causing chaos wherever he goes. Then there is Bergman (Tomas Villum Jensen), a hypochondriac who is also trying to avoid the grasp of his ex-wife and her new husband, and finally, there is the silent and brooding motorbike enthusiast, William (Torkel Petersson), who has been released after a seven-year sentence for murder.

The movie starts with the three convicts being released from prison and receiving instructions on their next job. They are supposed to steal a car that's hiding the loot from their last job, which happens to be in the garage of a gangster known as 'The Chairman' (Peter Andersson). The simple task turns out to be not so simple when the trio crashes the car during a high-speed chase and ends up on the run from both the police and gangsters who want their share of the stolen money.

As the trio is on the run, they encounter multiple obstacles and their comical and often disastrous attempts to escape from the situation they are in, keep the movie exciting and entertaining. They seek shelter at an old countryside inn, Stonedale, where they encounter an eccentric owner and a colorful cast of characters, including a drunken professor, an over-the-top redneck, and a peeping-tom motel owner. Meanwhile, the gangsters led by The Chairman are hot on their trail, hunting them down to recover their stolen loot.

The movie is hilarious, fast-paced, and full of witty dialogues. The lead actors are outstanding in their roles, with Kim Bodnia’s performance in particular being outstanding. Bodnia brought his charisma and natural talent to the role of Rune, who is the most compelling of the three main characters. He is fearless, quick-witted, and always ready for action. Petersson, who plays William, is brilliant in a nuanced performance as the quiet, stone-faced biker with an intimidating presence. Tomas Villum Jensen brings laughs with his hypochondriac and paranoid character Bergman, who adds a craziness to the group dynamic.

Despite being primarily a comedy, the movie is not without its tense moments, and as the ending draws near, the stakes are raised higher and higher with an intense showdown between the gangsters and the trio. As the movie wraps up and the fate of the main characters is finally revealed, the story arc is completed, and all loose ends are tied up.

In conclusion, Old Men in New Cars is a top-notch comedy that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. The movie is a must-watch for fans of action comedies that lean heavily into absurdity and exaggerated character portrayals. The film is well-directed, superbly acted, and sprinkled with moments of pure comic gold. The story has just the right mix of humor and drama, resulting in a thrilling and fun ride. Overall, it is a well-made movie that is well worth watching.
