The death penalty is also known as capital punishment, and it is the process where a person is killed by the government as punishment for the crime they committed. Most of us have heard of the electric chair, the gas chamber, and a firing squad as a means of meting out this punishment. However, the 2004 documentary film Poisoned covers the use of poison as a means of capital punishment. The film opens with a condemned prisoner being led down a torch lit stone corridor to his execution by poison. This happened over 4,000 years ago in ancient Egypt. The movie also covers the ways various poisons have been used in history to bring about the death of another human being.
