Quadrille is a French comedy film from 1938, directed by and starring Sacha Guitry. The movie is set in Paris during the 1930s and tells the story of a successful businessman, Pierre de l'Espérance (Sacha Guitry), who is married to Florence (Gaby Morlay), a beautiful and elegant woman who is much younger than him. One day, Pierre meets a young and attractive theatre actress, Eva (Jacqueline Delubac), and falls in love with her. Eva also has feelings for Pierre, and they start a passionate affair. However, Florence discovers the affair, and instead of being angry, she decides to play a game with Pierre. She asks him to bring Eva to a dinner party at their house, and they all agree to have a 'quadrille,' a dance from the 18th century where partners switch throughout the dance.

The dinner party turns out to be a hilarious and chaotic affair, as the different characters switch partners, and the tensions between Pierre, Florence, and Eva become more and more complicated. The dialogue is witty, and the characters are all well-drawn and interesting.

As the evening progresses, the situation becomes increasingly absurd, and the movie's comedy is derived from the characters' reactions to their situations. Sacha Guitry, in particular, delivers an excellent performance as the suave and sophisticated Pierre, who finds himself increasingly trapped by his own infidelity.

The film is set against the backdrop of pre-World War II Paris, and there are several scenes that take place in luxurious apartments and posh restaurants, emphasizing the decadence of the era. The movie's visual design is excellent, with lavish costumes and stunning sets that capture the glamour of Paris in the '30s.

Quadrille was a groundbreaking film, both for its storytelling and its technical innovations. The movie features a sequence shot in color, which was rare for the time, and the use of multi-camera setups to capture the dialogue was also innovative.

Overall, Quadrille is a delightful and charming movie that is sure to entertain audiences. With its witty dialogue, excellent performances, and stylish visuals, it is a classic of French cinema that still holds up today.
