River Money is a 2015 independent crime drama film that revolves around the lives of two brothers who run an illegal money-making scheme, along with their girlfriend who tries to keep their dirty secrets hidden. The movie, directed by Matthew Sauvé and written by both Sauvé and Alex Zuko, follows brothers Neal (Rob Wight) and Dale (Alex Zuko), who are inseparable friends and partners in crime. The film kicks off with the brothers robbing a local drug dealer, but the cash they steal turns out to be counterfeit, leading to an inconvenience. Desperate to put their hands on some real money, the brothers create a plan to rob a riverboat casino, which they believe has plenty of cash floating around. Their plan involves extensive planning and the involvement of their girlfriend, Audrey (Brittany Isham), who works at the casino and has inside knowledge about the security and operations.
As the story progresses, it becomes clear that things are not as easy as they seem. The brothers' relationship is put to the test as they encounter unforeseen obstacles, and their trust in each other is questioned. Neal starts to lose his grip on the mission, fueled by his addictions and psychological issues, while Dale tries to keep everything together. Meanwhile, Audrey struggles with the guilt of betraying her employer, and the pressure of hiding her involvement from the brothers, who she loves.
The movie's storyline is tense and suspenseful, as it follows the trio as they attempt to navigate their high-risk-illegal activities while trying to keep their secrets hidden from the prying eyes of the law enforcement. The soundtrack of the movie is impeccable, adding to the mood of the movie as each scene unfolds.
The cinematography is also excellent, with well-thought-out shots and camera angles that help to capture the scenery and the emotions of the characters. The film's scenes on the riverboat are excellently executed, with viewers feeling the rush of adrenaline as the plan is put into motion.
Rob Wight and Alex Zuko turn in solid performances as the brothers, showcasing their dynamic and exploring the complex relationship between them. Both actors do an excellent job of portraying the struggle between loyalty and self-preservation. Brittany Isham gives an impressive performance as Audrey, balancing a sense of guilt and love for the brothers. Her scenes with both Neal and Dale are some of the strongest in the entire movie.
The supporting cast does a great job too, giving realistic portrayals of their characters. The casino employees, played by Christine Ryndak and Gregory G. Freeman, among others, provide insight into the security measures in the casino and how Neal, Dale, and Audrey plan to circumvent them. The sheriff, played by William Robinson, is also great, adding to the tension and the stakes in the heist.
Overall, River Money is an engaging crime thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Though it has its flaws, the film offers an interesting take on the struggles of loyalty, addiction and self-preservation, and the sacrifices one may make to achieve their goals. It also has an unexpected twist that takes the movie to new heights.
