The Shogun Assassin is a 1980 martial arts thriller about a 17th century Samurai warrior who is forced to go on the run with his young son. The movie, which is directed by Robert Houston, is actually a compilation of two films from the Lone Wolf and Cub series: Lone Wolf and Cub - Sword of Vengeance, and Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart at the River Styx. When the powerful Shogun begins to go mad, he launches a brutal campaign of revenge against anyone he feels is his enemy. The Shogun's official decapitator Lone Wolf (Tomisaburo Wakayama) finds himself marked for death. The unsuccessful attempt to kill Lone Wolf results in the death of his wife. He then vows to kill the Shogun and anyone he sends after him. Lone Wolf leaves his village and pushes his toddler son Daigoro (Aikihiro Tomikawa) in a cart through the back roads. The Shogun sends his son and several ninjas to kill Lone Wolf and his son. Lone Wolf kills all of them and escapes. As he continues across the countryside, a female group of assassins stalk Lone Wolf and meet a violent end. The body count rises as more and more spies and assassins come after Lone Wolf. Officials from a local village hire Lone Wolf to kill an evil Emperor, who is extorting their money. Lone Wolf and his son board a ship, which will take them to his location. The Emperor has three body guards: The Masters of Death. One uses a claw, one uses a club, and the other a hook. After the leaving the ship, Lone Wolf and his son encounter the Masters of Death, whom he must kill to get at the Emperor. One by One, he kills all three, and then kills the Emperor. Now that he has accomplished his mission, Lone Wolf and his son continue on waiting for the next assassin.
