The Prodigy is a psychological horror film that was released in 2019. Directed by Nicholas McCarthy and with a screenplay by Jeff Buhler, the movie stars Taylor Schilling, Jackson Robert Scott, and Colm Feore. The story follows a couple, Sarah (played by Taylor Schilling) and John (played by Peter Mooney), as they raise their son Miles (played by Jackson Robert Scott). The movie begins with a scene in which a pregnant woman is being chased and eventually murdered by an unknown assailant. Shortly thereafter, Sarah gives birth to Miles.

As Miles begins to grow up, his behavior becomes increasingly strange. He starts to exhibit signs of being exceptionally intelligent and gifted, but his behavior also becomes increasingly aggressive and violent. Sarah becomes increasingly concerned about her son's behavior, and starts to investigate what might be causing it.

As Sarah delves deeper into Miles' condition, she discovers that there might be a supernatural component to his behavior. She consults with a August Pritchard (played by Colm Feore), a specialist in the occult, for help. Pritchard is convinced that Miles is possessed by the soul of a man named Edward Scarka, who was a serial killer and died just as Miles was born.

As the movie progresses, Sarah struggles to come to terms with the fact that her son might be possessed by a malevolent spirit. She must decide whether to seek help from the authorities or to try to exorcise the spirit herself. Meanwhile, Miles' behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent, putting him and those around him in danger.

The Prodigy is a well-crafted horror movie that manages to build tension and suspense throughout. The performances by the lead actors are strong, particularly that of Scott, who manages to convey both the innocence and the malevolence of his character convincingly. The movie also manages to leverage some clichés of the horror genre without feeling derivative, and the twist ending is both satisfying and surprising.

One of the things that makes The Prodigy stand out is the fact that it doesn't rely on gore or jump scares to generate fear. Instead, it relies on a more psychological and atmospheric approach, with McCarthy using sound design and cinematography to great effect. The movie also raises interesting questions about the nature of evil and the existence of the supernatural, without providing easy answers.

Overall, The Prodigy is a well-crafted horror movie that manages to be both chilling and thought-provoking. It's a must-see for horror fans who appreciate a more nuanced approach to fear.
