The episode titled Wally Bear and the NO! Gang is the sixth episode of the first season of the popular internet show, Angry Video Game Nerd. In this episode, the eponymous Nerd takes on one of the most infamous games of the NES era. The game in question is Wally Bear and the NO! Gang, a platformer released in 1992.
The game tells the story of a teddy bear named Wally who has to save his neighborhood from a group of menacing bullies known as the NO! Gang. The gameplay is straightforward - you play as Wally and jump over obstacles and enemies to reach the end of each level. However, as soon as the Nerd starts playing the game, he realizes that it's not as easy as it sounds.
Right off the bat, the Nerd is bombarded with terrible graphics, awful sound effects, and a confusing game mechanic that involves collecting "No" balloons. The Nerd is visibly frustrated with the game and can't help but wonder who in their right mind would ever want to play this monstrosity.
To make matters worse, every time Wally dies, he lets out an ear-piercing scream that the Nerd likened to nails on a chalkboard. The game's so bad that the Nerd feels like it's a complete waste of time and can't help but question why anyone would want to subject themselves to such a terrible experience.
As the Nerd progresses through the game, he starts encountering more and more bizarre enemies, including sentient garbage cans and a giant rat with boxing gloves. The game's levels are also poorly designed, with confusing layout and placement that often leads to cheap deaths.
Despite all its faults, the Nerd powers through and eventually makes it to the end of the game. However, the Nerd's patience is tested even further when he realizes that there's no ending to the game. Instead, you're forced to start all over again from the beginning.
With its terrible graphics, annoying sound effects, and frustrating gameplay, Wally Bear and the NO! Gang is one of the worst NES games ever made. The Nerd can't help but wonder how a game like this ever made it through development and into the hands of consumers.
In the end, the Nerd recommends that no one should ever play this game, and that it's best left forgotten. He also wonders how many developers and publishers were involved in creating such a terrible game, as it's clear that a lot of people dropped the ball in the making of Wally Bear and the NO! Gang.
Despite its shortcomings, Angry Video Game Nerd's episode on Wally Bear and the NO! Gang is an entertaining watch, full of the Nerd's trademark wit and sarcasm. For fans of the show, it's definitely a must-watch episode.
