Big Brother Canada premiered its first episode on February 27, 2013. The show starts with the introduction of Arisa Cox, the host of the show. She welcomes the viewers to the first season of Big Brother Canada, followed by a brief glimpse of the Big Brother house. The mansion is situated in Mississauga, Ontario, and boasts about 70 cameras and microphones to record every move and sound the housemates make.
Next up is the introduction of the first housemate, Aneal Ramkissoon, a 21-year-old person who hails from Richmond Hill, Ontario. He is followed by Kat Yee, a 27-year-old who is originally from Toronto, Ontario. Arisa explains that the housemates will live together in the house for the next few months, and every week, one of them will be eliminated through voting by their fellow housemates.
The next few minutes are dedicated to introducing the other 13 housemates, who come from a diverse range of backgrounds and age groups. There's a nurse, an actor, a bartender, a radio personality, a lifeguard, a teacher, a flight attendant, a student, and more. Each of them gets a brief intro and a chance to express their excitement and trepidation about living in the Big Brother house.
After the introductions, Arisa announces the first challenge of the season. The housemates will take part in a competition called "The HoH" or "Head of Household." The winner of this challenge becomes the HoH, has a private room in the house, and gets to nominate two housemates for eviction. The challenge involves the housemates standing on a narrow beam, while holding onto a rope. As the rope gets pulled away from them, they have to keep their balance and not fall off.
The competition is fierce, and the housemates display a lot of determination to win. Some of them struggle, while others manage to hold on for a long time. After a grueling hour of the challenge, it comes down to two housemates: Suzette Amaya and Tom Plant. In the end, Tom manages to outlast Suzette and win the title of HoH. He is overjoyed and can't wait to start his reign as the leader of the house.
After the challenge, the housemates enter the living room, where Tom is presented with his HoH room. The room is luxurious and has a king-sized bed, a plush couch, and an elegant dresser. Tom is thrilled and thanks his fellow housemates for their support. He then gets down to the business of choosing two housemates to nominate for eviction.
Tom explains that he wants to nominate the housemates who he feels are the biggest threats to his game. He chooses Suzette and Aneal, both of whom he feels are strong competitors. The other housemates listen intently, but some of them express concern about Tom's choices.
As the episode comes to a close, the housemates gather in the living room for the first eviction ceremony. Arisa explains the rules of the ceremony, and then gives Tom a chance to explain his nominations. Tom explains his strategy, and then the two housemates have a chance to defend themselves. They plead their case to the other housemates, but in the end, it's up to the housemates to decide who will be evicted.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with the housemates getting ready to cast their votes. Viewers are left wondering who will be the first housemate to leave the Big Brother Canada house, and what twists and turns the show will bring in the weeks to come.
