In Cyanide & Happiness Shorts season 1 episode 12, titled "Pinocchio," we are introduced to a familiar character from childhood stories, Pinocchio. However, this version of Pinocchio is far from the innocent and naive puppet we remember. In fact, he's a foul-mouthed, mischievous troublemaker who's up to no good.
The episode centers around Pinocchio's desire to go to the strip club. His companion, Jiminy Cricket, attempts to dissuade him, arguing that it's not appropriate for someone of his stature. But Pinocchio is insistent, and he manages to convince Jiminy to accompany him to the club.
Once they arrive, Pinocchio gets carried away with his new-found freedom and begins to act out. He breaks a bottle over someone's head, takes his clothes off, and generally causes a ruckus. Meanwhile, Jiminy is mortified and attempts to get Pinocchio to leave.
The two engage in a hilarious back-and-forth, with Pinocchio constantly rebelling against Jiminy's attempts to keep him in line. Pinocchio's disregard for authority and his devil-may-care attitude make for a compelling watch, even if it is a bit cringe-worthy at times.
However, things take a dark turn when Pinocchio's nose begins to grow. In the original story, this happened whenever he told a lie, but in this version, it happens whenever he gets aroused. The result is a truly grotesque sight, as Pinocchio's nose grows to nearly comical proportions.
Despite this, Pinocchio continues to act out, much to the chagrin of Jiminy and the other patrons of the club. Eventually, things come to a head when Pinocchio gets into a fight and ends up badly beaten. In a touching moment, Jiminy comes to his aid and helps him to his feet, reminding him that he doesn't have to act out to be loved.
The episode ends with Pinocchio learning a valuable lesson about the consequences of his actions. He and Jiminy leave the club, with Pinocchio now much more subdued and contemplative than before.
Overall, "Pinocchio" is a hilarious and engaging episode that puts a unique spin on the classic fairy tale. While it might not be suitable for all ages due to its adult content, it's definitely worth a watch for those who don't mind a little irreverence and some dark humor.
