Mark Kenyon is back on his home turf in southwestern Michigan for episode 2 of MeatEater's Back 40 season 1. In this episode, Mark faces a number of unexpected challenges as he sets out to improve his property and create an ideal hunting habitat.

First on Mark's to-do list is to mow down a section of grassy field that has grown too tall and thick for deer to comfortably graze. However, his trusty lawnmower is not cooperating, and Mark must resort to using a number of creative methods to get the job done.

Next, Mark sets out to repair and improve the network of trails on his property, which have been rutted up by years of use and the occasional heavy rain. With some help from a friend and a lot of hard work, Mark is able to smooth out the rough spots and make the trails more navigable.

But just as he's finishing up his trail work, Mark inadvertently disturbs a group of angry bees that have built a hive along one of the paths. With no protective gear on hand, Mark and his friend must scramble to get out of harm's way before the bees can deliver too many stings.

Throughout all of these challenges, Mark remains upbeat and focused on his ultimate goal of creating a top-notch hunting property that's attractive to both deer and hunters alike. As he reflects on the hard work and determination required to make his vision a reality, viewers are treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a true outdoorsman.
